Wheatleigh – Lenox

Wheatleigh - Entrance

Wheatleigh was built in 1893 by Henry H. Cook as a wedding gift to his daughter, Georgie, who married Carlos de Heredia, a Spanish Count. The Count and Countess spent six weeks a year at their “summer cottage” enjoying the beautifully peaceful Berkshire countryside. The home was designed by Peabody and Stearns and was inspired by a 16th century Florentine palazzo. Many of the materials and artisans involved in the creation of Wheatleigh were brought over from Italy and Frederick Law Olmsted, the landscape architect who designed Central Park, designed the gardens surrounding the palazzo. Wheatleigh is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World, has been awarded AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five-Star, as well as winning the Five-Stars in Forbes Travel Guide, truly a place to behold!

A luxurious 22 private acres for you and your guests with terraced lawns and guest accommodations, Wheatleigh provides a unique, high-end experience for all. European trained staff will look after every fine detail, a personalized menu for you and your spouse-to-be, and a venue that takes your breath away will be forever be embedded in your heart.

The Mount: Edith Wharton’s Home – Lenox

The Mount: Edith Wharton's Home - Calvin Elizabeth Photography

Built in 1902 by Edith and Teddy Wharton, The Mount was inspired by French, Italian and English architecture, but embraced the landscape of their 113 acres. Believing that interior decor belonged as a part of the architecture, Edith, and her designers created the movement for new American aesthetics in the late 19th century. Home to much of Edith Wharton’s original decor, books, and furniture thanks to the Edith Wharton Restoration, we now have a deeper understanding of the great American writer who broke through the restrictions society had placed on women.

If you’ve ever dreamed up a fairy tale wedding, The Mount is just the place for you. Imagine a ceremony in the colorful, award-winning formal gardens and reception on the Italian-inspired expansive terrace hugging the back of the beautiful main house. The estate is privately yours for your event, providing your guests with a beautiful opportunity to explore the home and gardens as if their own. The stunning white home becomes the backdrop for your special day, and whether it is an intimate 60 person wedding or a large 250 guests list, you will be the Belle of the Ball!
